Malta Business Registry's New Online Platform Set to Streamline Corporate Services

The Malta Business Registry (MBR) is gearing up for a significant digital transformation with the imminent launch of its new online platform. This initiative represents a substantial step forward in enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of corporate services in Malta. As a consulting firm with a global reach, FCHAIN Corporation recognizes the importance of such developments in streamlining business processes, and we are here to provide insights and support for enterprises navigating these changes.

The new online platform, set to go live from August 31, 2023, promises to be a game-changer for businesses and corporate service providers in Malta. Key features of this platform include the option to register corporate accounts and apply for a qualified digital signature.

Under the Corporate Accounts feature, companies will be required to designate an administrator responsible for creating a corporate account. This account will facilitate the management of the company’s users who are associated with it. Various levels of user access can be assigned to members within the corporate group. It’s worth noting that users can have personal top-up accounts while also being linked to a corporate group account. One of the significant advantages of the corporate group account is its ability to leverage name reservations within the same group for new company incorporations.

The Qualified Digital Signature application process allows users to apply for a qualified digital signature. This digital signature is valid for three years and can be utilized for submitting documents through the online platform, as well as for personal use.

To ensure a smooth transition to this new platform, Corporate Service Providers (CSPs) and the general public are encouraged to set up their accounts by October 15, 2023, through the platform accessible at register.mbr.mt. Importantly, the existing online platform (registry.mbr.mt) will continue to be available during this transition period.

Additionally, MBR is encouraging CSPs and the public to submit any documents that were previously returned for correction by MBR staff by September 17, 2023.

It’s crucial to note that online filing for company registrations, statutory forms, name reservations, penalty payments, and certificate orders will cease to be available from November 1, 2023. However, CSPs and the public will still have the option to submit documents in paper format or electronically signed documents by sending them to esigning@mbr.mt.

Starting from November 1, 2023, company searches, document downloads, and beneficial owner information will only be accessible for purchase by credit card.

The launch of this new online platform signifies Malta Business Registry’s commitment to supporting businesses in their digitalization journey. The platform is designed to streamline processes and provide a more user-friendly experience for companies and CSPs alike.

Minister for the Economy, European Funds, and Lands, Silvio Schembri, emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing the business ecosystem by embracing digitalization. He highlighted how the new online platform aims to facilitate business operations further and underscored the government’s adaptability to the digital landscape.

Dr. Geraldine Spiteri Lucas, the Chief Executive Officer and Registrar, urged the public and CSPs to stay updated on MBR’s website, social media channels, or subscribe to MBR’s newsletter for the latest updates regarding the new platform. Dr. Spiteri Lucas expressed the MBR’s commitment to guiding companies and CSPs through this transition towards a paperless future, ensuring a seamless and enhanced user experience.

As FCHAIN Corporation maintains its global presence, including a branch in Malta, we are well-prepared to assist businesses in adapting to these digital advancements and provide the necessary support during this transition. Our team of experts is dedicated to helping enterprises make the most of the evolving corporate landscape in Malta.
