Lending conditions in Georgia are set to become stricter. Under a new regulation by the National Bank of Georgia, the maximum debt-service limit for individuals will change starting from February 1, 2027.
Under the current rules, individuals whose monthly income is below GEL 1,500 may spend no more than 25% of their income on loan servicing — up to GEL 375. For individuals earning more than GEL 1,500 per month, the maximum monthly loan-servicing limit is 50% of income — GEL 750.
Under the new regulation, which will take effect on February 1, 2027, the income threshold for the 25% limit will increase from GEL 1,500 to GEL 2,000. From September 1, 2027, this threshold will rise further to GEL 2,500.
