World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on 5 October to recognise the important role teachers and educators play in people’s lives, learning and the development of societies.
In 2026, the day carries particular significance as it marks 60 years since the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. This milestone is being observed under the theme “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures.”
Teachers do much more than share knowledge. They encourage curiosity, build confidence and help people discover their potential. Behind many learning and development journeys are teachers who inspire people to keep learning, growing and moving forward.
