New Labor Code in Kyrgyzstan - Days off falling on statutory holidays not to be carried over

FCHAIN Kyrgyzstan office informs:

The Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy in Kyrgyzstan approved the draft of the new Labor Code in the second and third readings. The document contains changes to the calendar of holidays and working days, as well as updates of compensation package.

It is proposed to revise the status of some holidays in order to optimize work schedules. Defender of the Fatherland Day (February 23), People’s April Revolution Day (April 7) and the Days of History and Memory of Ancestors (November 7-8) will remain as holidays, but will become working days.

January 7 (Christmas), March 8 (International Women’s Day), March 21 (Nowruz), May 5 (Constitution Day of the Kyrgyz Republic), May 9 (Victory Day), August 31 (Independence Day of the Kyrgyz Republic) will remain non-working holidays, as well as the Muslim holidays Orozo Ait and Kurman Ait, the dates of which are determined by the lunar calendar.

In 2025, long weekends are planned for the New Year holidays, from January 1 to January 7 inclusive. For the May holidays, the vacation will last from May 1 to May 8, including the holidays of May 5 and 9.

Now the new Labor Code also contains a definition of payment for labor by hour.

According to the draft, a five-day workweek will be 40 hours, a six-day workweek – 36 hours. Overtime pay will remain increased: the first two hours of the night shift (from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) are paid at 1.5 times the rate, the following hours – at double the rate.
