Kyrgyzstan Aims for Increased Trade with Azerbaijan

Since 2021, bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan have been on a trajectory of steady development, with a notable increase in the dynamics and levels of bilateral contact.

This was announced by Kyrgyzstan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Kairat Osmonaliev.

According to data from the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan from January to July 2023 increased by 4.85 times compared to the same period in 2022. Kyrgyz imports from Azerbaijan during this period reached $19.437 million, an 18.59-fold increase compared to the same period in 2022 ($1.045 million).

The diplomat emphasized that there is still significant potential for further economic development between the two countries. He also noted that in 2022, Kyrgyzstan’s exports to Azerbaijan increased by 1.3 times, totaling $5.7 million, while imports decreased by 1.8 times to $3.1 million USD.

Kairat Osmonaliev also highlighted the efforts made by the embassy to launch a direct flight between Baku and Bishkek. This direct route, operated by “Azerbaijan Airlines” (AZAL) on July 22, marked the resumption of flights after a seven-year hiatus.

These positive developments showcase the growing economic ties and potential for expanded trade between Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan, strengthening their diplomatic and commercial relationship.
