The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan issued a joint order to launch a pilot project: obtaining an Individual Identification Number (IIN) has become available in Kazakhstan’s foreign institutions. The pilot project will be launched on April 13, 2024 and will run until December 31, 2024.
IIN is required for foreign citizens who plan to register a legal entity in Kazakhstan or for employment in a Kazakhstani company.
Previously, obtaining an IIN was available through an attorney, but in February 2024, obtaining an IIN through a power of attorney became unavailable, which in turn seriously complicated business registration or employment in Kazakhstan for non-residents. The pilot project on obtaining IIN in foreign institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan significantly simplifies many processes for non-resident individuals.
To obtain a state service, a foreigner personally applies to a foreign institution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and submits the following documents:
- application in established form;
- copy of the identity document and its original for verification (valid passport, unless otherwise established by international treaties of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In case the identity document of the beneficiary does not contain the identity data (surname, name, patronymic, place of birth) in Cyrillic or Latin alphabet, the corresponding translation of the document certified by a notary shall be attached.
The term of the service is one working day. The service is available in 96 foreign institutions of Kazakhstan worldwide.
