I would like to give short information about the history of the TRACECA program.

The international transport programme TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus–Asia International Transport Corridor) was launched in May 1993 at the conference in Brussels. It involves European Union and 14 countries.  The number of countries was 8 then: Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Armenia. But later Ukraine, Mongolia, Moldova, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Iran joined the programme. The aim of TRACECA is to establish the transport corridor from Europe crossing the Baltic Sea, the Caucasus, the Caspian sea and reaching  the Central Asian Countries, to develop trade and regional economy, to promote and extend the cooperation.

In September 1998 at Baku Summit of TRACECA the member countries signed the “Basic Multilateral Agreement on International Transport  for Developments of the Europe-the Caucasus-Asia Corridor” (MLA) to use full geopolitical and economic potential of member states.

The selection of a country is based on general information about the country provided by the Marco Polo Institute (a Non-Profit Private Institution gathering volunteer scholars, entrepreneurs, investors, experts aiming to lead communities to sustainable growth).

The permanent Secretariat (PS) of the IGC TRACECA was launched in Baku (Azerbaijan), on February 21, 2001. It is financed by the European Commission and headed by the Secretary General. The Secretariat provides administrative and technical advisory services, keeps the TRACECA archive, ensures information, coordination and protocols, keeps permanent representations in the member countries of MLA (Multilateral Agreement).

The realization of the TRACECA programme has led to widening and deepening cooperation, as well as simplifying border crossing procedures among the countries.

The technical assistance under the TRACECA programme has attracted large investments from a number of international institutions including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank having allocated more than 1.7 billion euros. They have financed main projects on ports, railways  and highways along the TRACECA corridor. The TRACECA corridor is the shortest, cheapest and most convenient means connecting Europe and Asia.

Financial Chain Corporation is absolutely sure the cooperation between the TRACECO transport programme to last for years, as companies applying for our services remain with us forever.
