In a historic event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the revered leader Heydar Aliyev and Azerbaijan’s athletics centenary, the inaugural 100 km ultramarathon took place within the picturesque grounds of the National Seaside Park. Organized under the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Azerbaijan Athletics Federation, and Baku City Public Services Operation Company, this ultramarathon saw local athletes, alongside Turkish counterparts and over 50 participants, fiercely compete.
Kicking off at the late hour of 03:00, the race proved to be a formidable test of endurance. Ultimately, Uzeyir Soylemez, a member of the Turkish national team, emerged victorious, completing the ultramarathon in an impressive 7 hours, 37 minutes, and 56 seconds. Agha Aliyev secured the second position with a time of 8 hours, 31 minutes, and 22 seconds, while Artyom Aliyev claimed the third spot. Among the women participants, Leyla Abdinova ascended to the top tier of the podium with a noteworthy time of 10 hours and 57 minutes, securing an honorable victory. Natalya Vallek secured the second position, followed by Camila Irafiyeva in the third position.
The winners were honored in a ceremony attended by Dobromir Karamarinov, President of the European Athletics Association, Mariana Vasileva, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, and Cavid Qurbanov, President of the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation. During the awards ceremony, Dobromir Karamarinov acknowledged the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation as a trusted partner within the European Athletics family.
