Arbor Day is a holiday that has been celebrated around the world since the mid-19th century. The date of the Arbor Day celebration varies according to the climatic conditions of individual countries. In the Czech Republic, Tree Day falls on October 20.
The protection of our forests is becoming increasingly important as we begin to feel the constant rise in temperatures. Trees provide relief from the heat, not only for us but for the entire Earth. They are our allies in the fight against climate change, as each tree can absorb up to 2 tons of CO2 during its growth. Protecting old forests is more effective in combating climate change than planting new trees.
In the Czech Republic, forests cover more than a third of the total area, and they should be given special attention to preserve these valuable ecosystems. Not everyone has the space and time for activism in the field, but our consumer behavior can make a difference.
