Agreement between Turkic States on the Establishment of a Simplified Customs Corridor

Deputies of the Senate at the plenary session of the chamber on September 13, 2024 ratified the Agreement between the governments of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States on the creation of a simplified customs corridor, FChain Kazakhstan reports.

Since the beginning of 2024, the volume of Kazakhstan’s foreign trade with member states of the Organization of Turkic States amounted to $10.4 billion, with exports accounting for 61% of trade turnover – $6.4 billion, imports account for 39% – $4 billion.

This agreement was signed to improve the efficiency of the customs corridor between the contracting states by:

  • improving the efficiency of customs control of goods and means of transport moving between states;
  • reducing the timeframe and creating conditions for simplifying customs control of goods and means of transport;
  • reducing the number of documents required for customs operations and customs procedures;
  • minimizing the use of forms and methods of customs control based on the analysis of information on goods using a risk management system;

It is noted that simplified customs formalities for trade operators will be applied where possible: separate lane of traffic, non-application of customs inspection at checkpoints/destination points.

“Ratification of the Agreement will contribute to the development of trade and economic relations and strengthening of mutual economic integration between the countries of the Organization of Turkic States. The implementation of the law will give a positive socio-economic effect,” summarized Senator Nurlan Bekenov.

The members of the Organization of Turkic States are Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
