A significant change is expected to come into effect in Georgia, raising the income threshold for property tax applicable to individuals from GEL 40,000 to GEL 100,000.
Under the upcoming changes, the existing GEL 40,000 threshold will be abolished, and property tax will apply only to individuals whose annual family income is GEL 100,000 or more.
In 2025, individuals in Georgia paid a total of GEL 121 million in property tax. This represents a 30% increase, or GEL 28.3 million, compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
Property tax differs from other taxes in Georgia in that the revenue collected is allocated to local municipal budgets.
Currently, individuals are required to pay property tax annually by November 15 if their family income exceeds GEL 40,000.
